Winter is best!!

Its amazing.  When the weather is nice and people are outside our phone rings.  When its cold and people are indoors the phone is quiet.  Many people do not realize that wintertime is the best time to have your trees professionally trimmed and pruned.  The sap is down in the trees and they are dormant making surgery much less harmful than when the trees are in bloom.

The professional arborist can still recognize deadwood even when all the leaves are down.  Having your trees professionally cleaned out during the wintertime will help insure minimal damage during severe weather, greatly increase the appeal of the tree, and will have the least negative impact upon the tree.

Consider having your trees pruned this winter; its still not too late.  Call Custom Cuts for a free consultation and estimate today!

Deadwood is easiest recognized in the summer when all the other branches have leafed out. Deadwood typically will have darker or peeling bark, revealing the inner bark which is lighter in color. If you are concerned that a plant/shrub/small tree may have deadwood, simply snap the end (about 6 inches) off a branch. The branch should not easily snap and break off. It should have some pliability to it. Hope this helps...sorry for the delay.

Yes, Gary, the winter is definitely over and spring, if not summer, is in the air. Summer trimming especially deadwooding and succor growth removal is perfectly fine. Trees should not have more than 3 to 5% of their foliage removed during the summer. Definitely not a good idea to top a bradford pear in the summer. Tree surgery (removal of certain limbs, branches, or leaders) can still be performed in the summer on healthy established trees.
